Description
An absolutely beautiful tree with vivid coloring spring through fall and exceptional sun tolerance, the Orangeola Japanese Maple is a weeping, semi-upright grower to about 8 to 10 feet tall an 8 feet wide. In spring its new lacy leaves emerge bright orange to red. As the second flush of growth comes on the trees can have a two tone appearance; orange new growth with dark maroon and/or green older growth. During summer the leaves may become a handsome green with orange and red undertones. In fall, a spectacular show of brilliant fiery-red and orange is truly a sight to behold!Â
Landscape & Garden Uses
To showcase its magnificence and beauty, Orangeola Japanese Maple is best used in the landscape as a focal point specimen to draw attention to a specific area of the home or landscape. That said, you can plant them in groupings of three or plant one on both sides of an entryway. Orangeola is excellent for use in containers.Â
Suggested Spacing:Â At least 12 feet apart for space between trees
Container culture can extend the useful range of Japanese Maples. They are extremely easy to grow in containers, a practice taken to its most extreme form in the art of bonsai. Click on the link below under Helpful Articles for Japanese Maple container planting instructions.Â
Note:Â Â One Japanese Maple can make a landscape…that is, if you don’t overcrowd it with other trees and plants. Therefore, when choosing companions to plant under or around your Japanese Maple, make sure to select low-growing shrubs or groundcovers that won’t interfere at all with your tree.Â
Note:Â For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5a, where this Japanese Maple variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Though delicate looking, Japanese Maples are actually very tough and long-lived trees. They are very easy to grow. Container culture can extend their useful range. They are extremely easy to grow in containers, a practice taken to its most extreme form in the art of bonsai.
In their natural habitat, Japanese Maples are understory trees, growing in dappled forest sunlight at the edges of woodlands. That said, Orangeola Japanese Maple has excellent sun tolerance.Â
Most any average garden soil will grow Japanese Maples. They prefer a moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. As with so many other ornamental plants and trees, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. So make sure to plant your Japanese Maple in a well-drained site.

Was so excited to quickly get expertly packaged weeping japanese maples in my favorite color and planted them properly and swiftly (even mulched them!!!!) using Website planting info into two opposite sides of my stream and koi pond in my backyard oasis that gets dappled sun. When I received this tree I was underwhelmed by the canopy but planted it anyway. After looking at it and playing around with the branches I staked one of the long branches up to make it a 5 foot tree. I believe this was what was intended from the nursery. since it is only a two gallon plant. Once it has time to develop it will be a nicely branched out upright example of orangeola. Very happy with this tree and would readily purchase from Wilson again.———————————————–We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Beth | WBG 🙂

I’ve been waiting for an Orangeola Maple to become available, and to be quite honest, I previously ordered from only one online nursery-religiously-but they were continually out of stock. I researched and decided to purchase from Wilson Brothers and after receiving my tree I will be changing my business to this nursery.
My little tree is so healthy, better than I could have imagined. I couldn’t believe how sturdy both the trunk and stems were. Nothing crushed or falling. Packaged well, soil still damp.
Great purchase! I can’t wait to see what it’ll look like in 5 years!——————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG

These Orangeola Japanese maple trees are beautiful! I was anxious about ordering plants and trees online, but since my local vendors hadn’t received their plants yet. No problem….my trees arrived in a very strong box. They were packaged very good and you couldn’t see any evidence of mishandling by delivery. Planted them and they have leafed out and are beautiful. ———————– WBG Reply: Hi Sherry! I received this Orangeola Maple within just a few days of ordering. It was very well packed and in good shape. I am very pleased with the quality of the trees health. It has been doing extremely well here in NJ even with Upper 80-90 degrees. Watering heavily each morning has really helped. It was about 26 inches at its’s highest branch when I received it, and now it’s about 30 inches from the ground surface.—————————————Hi Steve, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Orangeola Weeping Japanese Maple. The Japanese Maple ‘Orangeola’ is difficult to find. Wilson Bros sent a lovely little specimen, and it was so ingeniously packaged that it arrived in perfect condition. I’m also pleased that it’s happy enough in its pot to thrive while I prepare its new planting site.—————–WBG Reply: Hi Rosemarie, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Orangeola Weeping Japanese Maple. I continue to be impressed with the quality of plants shipped from Wilson Bros. The plants they ship are high quality and they are excellently packaged. I saw this beautiful Japanese Maple last year and knew I had to have it. I ordered it several months ago and gave them a preferred shipping date which they hit right on. I am anxious to plant this gorgeous tree. Wilson Bros. sent a beautiful plant, now it is up to me. I have dealt with many plant mail order companies in the past, but I only deal with Wilson Bros. now, they are way above the others.———————-WBG Reply: Hi Susan, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Orangeola Weeping Japanese Maple.
